The official theoretical document of Fascism, published under the title Il fascismo e i problemi della razza in “Il Giornale d’Italia” of July 14, 1938, and also known by the misleadingly reductive title Manifesto degli scienziati razzisti, anticipated by a few months the promulgation of Fascist anti-Jewish legislation in September-October 1938. It was signed by some of Italy’s leading scientists and academics.
The “Manifesto” became the ideological and pseudo-scientific basis of Fascist Italy’s racist policy, stating that “the concept of race is a purely biological concept.” The document concerned racism in its complexity and, within that framework, also anti- Jewish racism.
