Edoardo was born in Venice on April 16, 1876, the son of Leone Bassani and Elena Richetti. He married Giuditta Ascoli.
He was arrested at the Israelitic House of Rest during the first major raid of Venetian Jews on the night of December 5–6, 1943 (his son Bruno was also arrested during the raid).
He was transferred to Fossoli and then to Auschwitz, where he was assassinated on arrival on 26/02/1944.
In his memory a stumbling stone was placed in front of the Israelitic House of Rest, on 22/01/18
