About the Project

Remembering the City: Stumbling Stones, Memory Sites and Augmented Reality, is a Public History developed by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, in collaboration with the Jewish Community of Venice and with the contribution of the Veneto Region.

The fundamental idea behind this project is to explore the urban memory of cities and their formation through the use of augmented reality (AR) as a visualisation tool, in order to develop digital historical narratives.

The mobile platform is aimed in particular at the younger generations, and uses geolocation and augmented reality to guide citizens to locate a significant selection of the stumbling stones and other memory sites of the city of Venice and to enjoy the associated content.

The aim is to increase the cognitive and emotional involvement of users, to promote a better understanding of the history of Nazi-fascist persecution and deportation.
