Title

Decreto ateniese per la fondazione di Brea

Il decreto testimonia l'invio di una spedizione per la fondazione dell'apoikia ateniese a Brea, verificatasi probabilmente sotto Pericle nel 446/5 a.C. o poco dopo. Il decreto riporta numerose informazioni sulle modalità di fondazione di una colonia ateniese: la nomina di una commissione ecistica composta da un ecista, alcuni apoikistai, dieci geonomoi per la divisione in kleroi del territorio coloniale, ed un episkopos a controllo dei fondi stanziati dalla città. L'attaccamento religioso con la madrepatria è assicurata dall'obbligo di inviare tributi da parte dei coloni per le grandi Panatenee e le Dionisie. Tucidide, emendato su proposta del Bergk, Cratino (o per alcuni Cratero) e Teopompo testimoniano l'esistenza di Brea spingendo per coniugare le informazioni da questi ricavabili con quanto emerso dai recenti scavi archeologici e supporre che l'apoikia sia stata fondata nella Penisola Calcidica poco più a nord di Potidea, sulla costa orientale del Golfo Termaico.

Block; white pentelic marble; 68 × 31 × 20 cm. Fragmentary. Risultano leggibili il recto (Fr. a) ed un frammento staccatosi dalla sommità (Fr. c). Abraso è il verso (Fr. b), salvo l'emendamento che è stato inciso sul dorso.

Translation

[…] contro di essa, o il dichiarante o il proponente, sia citato in tribunale. Nel caso in cui citi qualcuno in tribunale lo ipotechi il dichiarante o il proponente; i conduttori della colonia offrano loro i mezzi per un sacrificio con lieti auspici in favore della colonia, quanti credono giusto. Siano scelti come divisori della terra dieci uomini, uno per ogni tribù: siano loro a dividere la terra. Si attribuiscano a Democlide pieni poteri sulla colonia (che eserciti), compatibilmente con le sue capacità, nel modo migliore possibile. Lasci i recinti sacri come sono e non ne crei altri. Siano portati un bue e una panoplia alle Grandi Panatenee e un fallo alle Dionisie. Nel caso in cui qualcuno intraprenda una spedizione contro il territorio dei coloni, le città li soccorrano nel modo più risoluto possibile in conformità ai patti, che […] mentre […] era segretario si stipularono a proposito delle città in Tracia. Sia scritto in una stele ed esposta sull’Acropoli. Offrano la stele i coloni, come pagamento a titolo personale. Nel caso in cui qualcuno voti in violazione alle (disposizioni del)la stele o un politico ne discorra in pubblico o istighi qualcuno ad abrogare o violare una disposizione del decreto, egli sia colpito da atimia insieme con i suoi figli e i suoi beni siano confiscati e una decima sia offerta alla dea, salvo che non siano gli stessi coloni a richiedere una qualche [. . .]. Quanti tra i soldati saranno iscritti per abitare come coloni, una volta tornati ad Atene dovranno insediarsi a Brea entro trenta giorni. La colonia sia dedotta in trenta giorni. Eschine li accompagni e dia loro il denaro. Fantocle ha proposto: riguardo alla deduzione di Brea sia come propose Democlide; durante la pritania Eretteide Fantocle sia introdotto alla Boule nella prima seduta; i coloni inviati a Brea siano presi da teti e zeugiti.
