L'iscrizione contiene un trattato di alleanza tra il re Farnace I del Ponto e gli abitanti di Chersoneso Taurica. Il re promette di fornire aiuto militare e di rispettare le istituzioni e la sicurezza della città, gli abitanti della città promettono di mantenere l'alleanza con il re se costui rimane in buoni rapporti con loro e con i Romani. Il trattato, secondo alcuni studiosi, è databile al periodo immediatamente successivo alla fine della cosiddetta ‘guerra pontica’, nella primavera del 179 a.C.; secondo altri, molti anni dopo, nella primavera del 155 a.C. La prima ipotesi sembra essere quella maggiormente sostenibile. Nel testo epigrafico si fa riferimento tra l'altro al pericolo delle incursioni degli Sciti, che spingono gli abitanti di Chersoneso Taurica a cercare l’alleanza del re del Ponto. Entrambi i contraenti sembrano inoltre interessati a preservare relazioni amichevoli con Roma.

Traduzione
(…) Ma preserveremo il suo regno per quanto possibile, finché egli rimanga nostro amico e conservi l’amicizia verso i Romani e non compia nulla contro di loro; se noi rispetteremo il giuramento bene ce ne venga, se non lo rispetteremo avvenga il contrario. Questo giuramento è stato prestato il giorno quindici del mese di Herakleios, essendo basileus Apollodoros figlio di Herogeitos, segretario Herodotos figlio di Herodotos. Giuramento che ha prestato il re Farnace, essendo stati inviati presso di lui come ambasciatori Matris ed Herakleidas: “Io giuro per Zeus, Ge, Helios e per tutti gli dei e le dee dell’Olimpo: sarò amico dei Chersonesiti in tutto e per tutto, e se i barbari che abitano attorno faranno spedizioni militari contro Chersoneso o il territorio che è controllato dai Chersonesiti o se commetteranno oltraggi contro i Chersonesiti e questi ultimi mi chiameranno, io andrò in loro soccorso, ogni volta che me ne venga offerta l’occasione e non complotterò contro i Chersonesiti in alcun modo, né farò spedizioni contro Chersoneso, né rivolgerò le armi contro i Chersonesiti, né farò nulla contro i Chersonesiti che possa nuocere al demos dei Chersonesiti, ma preserverò la democrazia per quanto possibile, finché essi rimangono miei amici e prestano lo stesso giuramento e se conservano l’amicizia verso i Romani e non intraprendono nulla contro di loro. Se rispetteranno il giuramento bene gliene venga, se non lo rispetteranno avvenga il contrario. Questo giuramento è stato prestato nell’anno centocinquantasettesimo, nel mese di Daisos, cosi come conta (gli anni) il re Farnace.
